Visioning Excellence Sessions

“What will be society’s most challenging needs?”

Here are archived and organized responses from each session held with various representatives of campus. Each “word cloud” summarizes the pressing issues as identified during each session. The size of each word in the cloud is determined by the frequency with which this issue was raised. Larger words denote a greater emphasis by the groups. You can also find the raw data from which these word clouds were generated for each session.

Methodology: During each session, participants listed several items that reflect society’s major challenges in the next 20 to 50 years, and they categorized each item under major themes. All information was recorded. Word clouds were created that indicate frequency, so that words mentioned more often are larger than ones mentioned less often. In order to establish consistency of the major themes so that the frequency distribution in the Word Cloud would truly represent the major topics, some of the themes were re-named or “normalized.” For example, if one group listed Natural Resources and Environment and another group listed Climate and Energy, both were called “Energy environment and sustainability.”
